The Granite Belt Choir and Orchestra are preparing for their performance in the Swigmore Hall of Karl Jenkins' "The Armed Man - A mass for Peace".

It is an intensely moving, extraordinarily dramatic and tuneful piece that fits perfectly into the repertoire for 2015, the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign. The work, which premiered in 2000, charts the growing menace of a descent into war, interspersed with moments of reflection; shows the horrors that war brings; and ends with the hope for peace in a new millennium.  Some of the text is taken from a traditional Mass setting and there are also pieces featuring the words of Kipling, Tennyson and others.
