Heathcote wines to take centre stage for the first time in August 2013

The first ever Heathcote Wine Show and Dinner will take place over August 2nd and 3rd 2013.

In the tradition of some of the great Australian regional wine shows, such as the Hunter Valley and Barossa Valley, only wines made from grapes grown in the Heathcote wine region (GI) are eligible to enter the show. This gives the region the opportunity to highlight the quality, diversity and longevity of Heathcote wines. It is also seen as a valuable chance for the region’s wine growers and makers to benchmark their wines regionally.

The Show Committee has brought together a group of seven highly respected wine show judges, including Brian Walsh (former Chairman of Judges of the Royal Adelaide Wine Show), Tim Kirk (Clonakilla Wines), Sue Bell (Bellwether Wines), Kate McIntyre MW (Moorooduc Estate), Philip Rich (Prince Wine Store and wine writer), Matt Pick (Cellarmasters Victoria) and Steve Flamsteed (Giant Steps).

Wines will be judged in five categories: Sparkling Wines, White Wines, Shiraz, Other Red Wines and Fortified Wines with Whites, Shiraz and Other Reds broken down into Young, Older and Museum classes. There will be trophies for Best Shiraz and Best Single Vineyard wine. The grand prize of the show will be the Heathcote Grand Terroir 2013 Trophy. This prize will be for Shiraz bottled under the same label that demonstrates the highest quality and style consistency across the three Shiraz classes (Young, Older and Museum) through the judging process.

Heathcote Wine Show Committee Chairman Graeme Quigley says “the thinking behind the show is the exciting opportunity it gives us to look at how Heathcote wines travel through time, how they age, the quality and consistency of style coming from individuals and the region”.

The Public Tasting brings together a never-to-be-repeated range of the pride of Heathcote, with the Older and Museum wines sure to be worth the trip from almost anywhere. Later on, the Wine Show Dinner will be a wonderful celebration of the inaugural Heathcote Wine Show, with winner announcements and great food matched with some of the highlight wines of the show. Dinner is in the very capable hands of local chef Roland Schaedle and with dishes like Holy Goat (Sutton Grange Organic) Goat’s Cheese Tarts, Piper Street Duck and Mushroom Parfait, McIvor Farm Foods Pork Belly slow roasted in Harcourt Cider and Puddle Duck Farm Rhubarb and Raspberry Tart, the four-course meal is sure to be a worthy partner to the gorgeous Heathcote wines.

Wine Show Dinner ($120 incl. Public Tasting entry): Saturday 3rd Aug 6.45pm
